Written at a third-fourth grade reading level, Let's Discover Ohio is both interesting and understandable to fourth grade students. Words that may be new or unfamiliar to children are underlined and a definition is provided in the back of the book. Graphics and illustrations create additional appeal for children.

The book is divided into sections, covering Ohio's history from the glaciers and Native Americans to Pioneers and The Civil War. Government Branches, Immigration, the Underground Railroad and many more topics are also covered in Let's Discover Ohio. Additional Ohio information is given at the end of the book, including things like our state seal and motto, presidents and famous people from Ohio and fun facts about Ohio.

At the end of each section are a variety of activities pertaining to that section to strengthen children's understanding of Ohio history. Some of these activities include map questions, timelines with sequence of events questions, Fact vs. Opinion, Matching and Cause and Effect. Activities specifically related to the proficiency test are marked with a ladybug graphics. Hands on projects are also presented with some sections to provide students and teachers with fun, educational activities.
